Yuxiao Zhang is a filmmaker whose work centers on people. She believes that even the largest social questions ultimately live within the most intimate emotions and relationships of individuals.
Influenced by films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, her work repeatedly returns to questions of memory, intimacy, and existence: is our connection to those we love a source of pain, or the very structure of who we are?
As an editor, she approaches her craft as emotional architecturecarefully shaping rhythm, silence, and relational tension. Her editing and sound design work on Love Will Tear Us Apart earned multiple international awards, including a Best Editing prize at a film festival.
Deeply engaged in documentary storytelling, Yuxiao has worked on social-issue projects for CCTV-12 and recently completed editing All of Us Girls, a documentary that has been officially selected for the Saint Louis International Film Festival (Short Documentary category). The film offers an intimate portrayal of vulnerability, resilience, and connection within women’s lived experiences.
Alongside traditional filmmaking, she explores AI as a new narrative language. She edited the AI short Nezha, selected by multiple festivals, and created the AI music video On Fire, recently published.
A graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, Yuxiao continues to move fluidly between fiction, documentary, and AI-driven work. She views filmmaking not as the construction of distance, but as the offering of a mirror—inviting audiences to recognize others, and ultimately, themselves.
